Superset vs Nimbalyst (2026): Agent Workspace vs Visual Workspace for Claude Code and Codex

Compare Superset and Nimbalyst, the successor to Crystal. Any CLI agent in parallel Git worktrees with PR review and remote hosts vs a visual workspace with editors, a task board, and multiplayer for Claude Code and Codex.

Last updated·

Superset and Nimbalyst both run coding agents in parallel, each optionally in its own Git worktree, with diff review and an iPhone app. Nimbalyst is the successor to Crystal, which its makers deprecated in February 2026. The two take different angles: Nimbalyst is a visual, multiplayer workspace centered on Claude Code and Codex, with built-in editors for documents, sheets, diagrams, and mockups, plus a task board. Superset is a workspace for running any CLI agent, on your own machines, through to the pull request.

Facts were checked against Nimbalyst's own site, docs, changelog, and repository on October 13, 2026.

What Is Superset?

Superset is a desktop workspace for orchestrating CLI coding agents. Each task runs in its own workspace with a Git worktree and a persistent terminal, so Claude Code, Codex, and any other agent run side by side on your own subscriptions; Superset never proxies model calls. The Changes pane commits, pushes, and opens pull requests, and the Pull Requests view shows CI checks and sends line comments back to agents. Remote Access adds macOS or Linux machines as shared hosts, scheduled automations run agents on a host you choose, and a CLI, TypeScript SDK, MCP server, and Slack bot let other tools drive it. The iPhone and iPad app reaches your hosts away from your desk.

What Is Nimbalyst?

Nimbalyst describes itself as "the visual workspace for Codex and Claude Code" and as "multiplayer for Claude Code and Codex." It is the successor to Crystal, whose repository says it "has been deprecated and replaced by Nimbalyst." Nimbalyst runs Claude Code and Codex fully, with OpenCode, Copilot, and ACP agents in alpha, and can give each session its own worktree in one click. Its distinguishing feature is a set of built-in visual editors (markdown, CSV and sheets, mockups, Excalidraw, Mermaid, data models, mind maps, code, a project canvas, and a wiki) alongside a kanban board of sessions that agents can read and update. Teams get real-time multiplayer documents and boards, shared agent sessions, and team chat. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, has an iPhone and iPad app, and can run remote sessions in your own Cloudflare sandbox. The desktop and iOS apps are MIT-licensed; individuals use it free, and Teams is $20 per user per month, free while in beta.

Key Differences

Any Agent vs Claude Code and Codex First

Superset runs any CLI agent in a real terminal, with built-in presets for more than 20. Nimbalyst is built around Claude Code and Codex, with other agents in alpha. If your team uses several agents, or wants to compare them on the same task, Superset is the broader fit.

Engineering Loop vs Visual Workspace

Nimbalyst puts documents, diagrams, sheets, and a task board next to the agents, which suits teams that plan and specify work visually. Superset focuses on the engineering loop: worktrees, terminals, diffs, pull requests, CI checks, and an in-app browser, and it works alongside the editor you already use.

Where Agents Run

Superset runs agents on your machine or on macOS or Linux hosts you add, which keeps them working on your real environment when your laptop sleeps. Nimbalyst runs locally and can run remote sessions in your own Cloudflare sandbox.

Platforms and License

Nimbalyst runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and is MIT-licensed. Superset runs on macOS with an experimental Linux build, has no Windows app yet, and is source-available under ELv2.

Team Features

Nimbalyst's team story is real-time multiplayer: shared documents, boards, and agent sessions. Superset's is shared hosts with per-member access, task intake from Linear, GitHub Issues, and Slack, and an enterprise tier with SAML SSO, SCIM, audit logs, and a SOC 2 Type II report.

Pricing

Superset offers a free tier and Pro at $20 per user per month, or $15 billed yearly, with an enterprise tier on custom billing. Nimbalyst is free for individuals, with no account needed; Teams is $20 per user per month or $200 per year and free while in beta; Enterprise is custom. Both are bring-your-own-agent for model costs. Prices as of October 2026.

Which Should You Choose?

  • Want agents on shared hosts you own, reachable from an iPhone or iPad
  • Want PRs, CI checks, and line comments back to agents in one place
  • Want a CLI, SDK, MCP server, and Slack bot, and enterprise controls

Choose Nimbalyst if you:

  • Mainly use Claude Code and Codex
  • Want visual editors and a task board next to your agents
  • Need Windows, or want an MIT-licensed tool
  • Want real-time multiplayer on documents and sessions
