Claude Code vs Muse Code (2026): Anthropic's Agent vs Meta's

Compare Claude Code and Meta's Muse Code: models, pricing, subagents, /batch versus workflows, and Claude imports, and how to run both side by side.

Last updated·

Claude Code is Anthropic's terminal coding agent. Muse Code is Meta's, built for the Muse Spark models. Both are strong at multi-agent work: Claude Code has subagents, /batch, and an agent view, and Muse Code has subagents on by default and workflows that run teams of them. Muse Code can also import Claude skills and plugins and continue a Claude Code session with /resume-claude, so trying it does not mean starting over.

Facts were checked against Anthropic's and Meta's own docs on October 13, 2026.

What Is Claude Code?

Anthropic describes Claude Code as "an agentic coding tool that reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands, and integrates with your development tools." For parallel work it has subagents, /batch runs that fan a change out across 5 to 30 subagents each in its own worktree, an agent view for background sessions, experimental agent teams, cloud sessions, and Remote Control. Plugins with marketplaces, skills, and hooks make it highly extensible. It is not on Claude's free plan; it comes with Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise, or an API key.

What Is Muse Code?

Meta describes Muse Code as "Meta's coding agent for the terminal and CI, built for Muse Spark." It came out of beta on August 31, 2026. The terminal UI is muse, and muse exec runs it headless for scripts and CI. muse serve exposes a session protocol, with TypeScript (preview) and Python SDKs. Subagents are on by default, up to 8 per tree, and each can get a Muse-managed worktree. Workflows run teams of subagents in parallel or in stages. It supports MCP and 17 hook events, imports Claude and Codex skills and Claude plugins, and continues local sessions with /resume-claude and /resume-codex.

Key Differences

Multi-Agent Work

Both are strong here, in different shapes. Claude Code's /batch fans one change out across many subagents in separate worktrees, and its agent view tracks background sessions. Muse Code runs subagents by default and adds workflows, which run teams of subagents in parallel or in stages inside one session. Claude Code's agent teams are still experimental.

Moving Between Them

Muse Code can import Claude skills and plugins and pick up a Claude Code session with /resume-claude. Claude Code has no matching import from Muse Code. If you already have a Claude setup, you can try Muse Code with it.

Models and Price

Claude Code runs Anthropic's models on a Claude plan or API key. Muse Code runs Meta's Muse Spark and Muse Wonder. Through the API, Muse Spark 1.3 costs $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens, and Muse Wonder 1.0 costs $4 and $20. Muse subscriptions are usage tiers that reset every 5 hours and weekly; Meta does not list their prices as text. Cheaper Contributor models and plans let Meta train on your data.

Maturity and Ecosystem

Claude Code has a larger plugin and skill ecosystem and more surfaces, including IDE extensions and cloud sessions. Muse Code is newer, and Meta lists no desktop app or VS Code extension; Zed connects through its session protocol.

Run Both Side by Side

You do not have to pick one in the abstract. Give the same task to both on your own repository and keep the better diff.

Superset runs Claude Code and Muse Code as built-in agents, each in its own Git worktree and terminal, on your own Claude and Muse subscriptions. Create two workspaces from the same branch, start each agent with the same prompt, then compare the diffs in the Changes pane and open a pull request from the better one. Superset never proxies model calls. See How to Compare Coding Agents Side by Side, Superset vs Muse Code, and Best IDE for Muse Code.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose Claude Code if you:

  • Want /batch runs and an agent view for background sessions
  • Want the largest plugin and skill ecosystem
  • Already pay for Claude Pro or Max

Choose Muse Code if you:

  • Want workflows that run teams of subagents in parallel or in stages
  • Want to try Meta's Muse Spark models
  • Want to bring your Claude skills, plugins, and sessions with you

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Muse Code use my Claude Code skills and plugins?

Yes. Muse Code imports Claude skills and plugins, and Codex skills. It can also continue a local Claude Code session with /resume-claude.

Which is better for parallel agents?

Both are strong. Claude Code has /batch, which fans out 5 to 30 subagents in separate worktrees, and an agent view. Muse Code runs up to 8 agents per tree by default, counting the root agent, and has workflows for teams of subagents. Note that parallel runs multiply token use.

Is Muse Code free?

No. Muse Code needs a Muse subscription or API access. Claude Code also has no free tier.

Can I run Claude Code and Muse Code at the same time?

Yes. Give each its own Git worktree so they do not edit the same files. In Superset, each runs in its own workspace on the same repository.
